Kisses to the Moon

“Kisses to the Moon” was a little dream of mine, inspired by my son, Laken, who was stillborn in December 2018 at 36 weeks gestation.

Laken had a rocket swaddle blanket and matching hat. From that moment on, anything space-related reminded our family of him. Even now, friends and family — both near and far — send us pictures of rockets, astronauts, and moons that make them think of our boy. It means more than they know.

After Laken’s memorial service, we gathered in a parking lot under the night sky. My oldest daughter, who was six at the time, held a large rocket-shaped balloon with Laken’s name written on it. As she released it, she waved frantically and shouted, “Goodbye, Laken! Goodbye!”

We stood together and watched as the balloon floated higher and higher. It looked as though it was making its way closer and closer to the moon. It was a heartbreaking and beautiful moment that we will never forget.

I have always wanted to create something meaningful in Laken’s memory. He touched so many lives in his short time, and I want his legacy to continue. One day, while driving home, the phrase “Kisses to the Moon” came to me — and here we are.

Right now, it is just the trucker hats — because here in Nashville, everyone loves a good hat. But my hope is that this creative project will grow and expand into more meaningful products. I would truly love to hear your thoughts and ideas on what you would like to see next.

As this project grows, my goal is to donate a portion of the profits to an organization that supports parents who have experienced stillbirth.

Thank you for reading. And thank you for remembering our sweet boy.
